Slovenia - day 2

It was an early start this morning, we were in the car by 6am to drive the short distance to Lake Bled to photograph the sunrise. Here is a view of the Pilgrimage Church of the Assumption of Mary, on Lake Bled. We had a few moments of bright pink in the sky but not much more than you see here. I think this is the first landscape photography trip I have done where I haven’t been freezing cold in the early morning! The weather has been mild at the beginning and end of the day, and very warm during the day.

Then we went back to the guest house for breakfast. I knew I would struggle with what was offered - various breads, croissants, cheese, cold meats - but thankfully I had brought my own GF muesli and oat milk. After breakfast we went to the supermarket to get food for lunch. I was able to find things to make a sandwich with GF bread and also bought some fruit.

We decided to stop off at St Thomas Church at Selca, near Skofja Loka which is a church on top of a hill, to photograph it, before we drove to Piran. We ate our lunch when we got back to the car before heading off to Piran which is on the Slovenian coast. Slovenia is a small country so you can drive from the mountains to the coast quite easily.

Piran is situated near Trieste (in Italy) and is a popular coastal resort for the Slovenians. We wandered around for a couple of hours and took photos of the harbour and town. While it’s a pretty place it’s not really a good spot for photography other than touristy kind of images. We drove around the bay to Portoroz for the sunset, where we had a spectacular pink sunset (as can be seen in the extras), overlooking St George's Parish Church from Strunjan - it was well worth waiting for that. We had supper locally at an Italian restaurant before driving 1.5 hours back to Lesce and only got there at 10.30pm so it had been a very long day.

It’s another late evening to bed after an early morning, and we have another early start tomorrow. I have no down time so have not had any time to comment on journals.
