Acorns

Saturday
We have an oak tree partly overhanging our patio, and it can be a little hazardous sitting out there at this time of year, as you are likely to get hit on the head by falling acorns! The few larger ones in my photo are actually not from our tree, but a few I picked up while out for a neighbourhood walk. In the evening we were out at the Taft Theatre downtown, watching Wait Wait stand up comedy. “Wait wait don’t tell me” is an NPR (National Public Radio) weekly comedy news quiz program. Laura had called us the other day to say she had heard there was going to be this comedy show, featuring some of the comedians who regularly appear on the show, in Cincinnati tonight, and she wondered if we’d be interested- she was proposing buying the tickets herself as a belated birthday present for Roger. We thought that sounded an interesting idea, and graciously accepted. So there were four comedians, who each did a stand up routine, and then at the end, they all came on stage and answered questions from the audience about the show. The only problem for me was that when they’re on Public Radio, they have to keep their speech relatively clean, but that wasn’t the case tonight, and one of them in particular, who was acting as MC and so appeared more often than the other three, seemed to use a swear word about every fifth or sixth word, which I didn’t appreciate. Other than that I think he was one of the funniest of the four, but the swear words spoiled it for me. Anyway, it was interesting seeing the faces to go with the voices, and we enjoyed it over all, and appreciated Laura’s idea.
