Living my dream

Freesias again

I am utterly fed up with excited NZ political commentators burbling on about the General Election on Saturday. It is impossible to get through a news broadcast without their beaming faces and / or voices showering us with speculation and opinion polls. Despite the irritation, it amuses me that they believe that all their listeners and readers share their enthusiasm.

And now the remainder of the news is about Israel-Palestine, which is just as unbearable to listen to, or read for very different reasons.

With the world’s media and powerbrokers so focussed on the eastern end of the Mediterranean, this is the obvious time for new horrors to go under the radar in other parts of the world.

So let’s not forget to keep our eyes on Ukraine, Burma, South Sudan, Niger, Haiti, North Korea and the multitude of other ‘hotspots’ where inhumanity is piled on inhumanity.

The freesias are a welcome reminder that I am truly fortunate to live this life in this country.
