Red-throated diver

Seeing more divers around now. I went down to the beach that lines the causeway between South Ronaldsay and Burray. Birds a bit distant (extra- dunlins and a sanderling) included dunlin, turnstone, sanderling, etc. By the village my first redwings of the season went over. I stopped at St Marys village and sat in the hide overlooking the Loch of Ayre. It had loads of wigeon, tufted duck, mallard, red-breasted merganser, two little grebes, a goosander and my first goldeneye of autumn. Another autumn first was a goldcrest in the small wood there.
