Second-time-around

Exciting photo not allowed!

These are the steps up to the ‘mobile unit’ where I had been invited to attend for a scan. It was an NHS initiative to check for signs of lung cancer. When the invitation told me the mobile unit was sited on Tesco car park, I could not refuse, because of the wonderful Cornish scenery there.

Having parked, I went up these horrid steps. At the top, the door opened OUTWARDS! So you had to step back against the handrail. I was then told that this wasn’t the entrance! There was NO SIGNAGE! I had to go down the horrid steps and walk further up to a different unsigned entrance. Inside, I was asked identical questions to those I had answered on the phone a few days earlier when the appointment was made. I was then escorted back to the horrid steps. I commented on the outward opening door and wondered who had designed it. ‘A man, I expect’ said the ‘nurse’. I agreed - but I wonder when misogynist type comments about MEN will be out of favour!

The actual CT scanner was big and white and curvy in a brightly lit room. A bit like the inside of a space ship. When the scan was done I asked if I could photograph the machine (I had already wondered if I could grab a quick shot when the ‘nurse’ wasn’t looking, but she didn’t ever turn her back to me. I was given a strong refusal, but no reason was given. So in defiance I photographed the horrid steps instead!

I forgot to say - it rained all night and most of today. Zero sun.
