Second-time-around

Pumpkin field

This field was open for visitors today - it’s on the same farm that opened its sunflower field in summer. This time there was no admission charge. There were buckets and wheelbarrows to borrow so that people could pick their own. They were priced by size, and variously sized plywood hoops were used to gauge the size. The pumpkin field is open again tomorrow , and next weekend - but I don’t think there will be any left by next weekend!

I was disappointed because they were all too similar - I had hoped to see different colours and shapes. But the sky was nice  - lots of sun and clouds, with some short showers. There should have been rainbows, and the pumpkin field was high up so there was almost a 365 degree view, but I didn’t see even one small rainbow.

The sun was nice but it was really cold!

Sharp eyed people might spot a greyish triangle on the horizon almost dead centre.  Its the remains of a St Austell clay mine - the spoils after digging out the clay.  The clay company had a contract to 'restore' the mess after they'd got all the clay they wanted.  But the locals have got so used to this pointy bit   in their surroundings that they have objected to its removal and want it to stay just like that!
