Quod oculus meus videt

Light and Shadow

I had the pleasure of JohnGravett's company and a walk to the 4th highest mountain in the Lake District, Skiddaw.  Not just one Wainwright but 4 others ticked off as well as John expertly guided us.  The only sad thing was that N couldn't join us, having succumbed to a heavy cold after yesterday's exertions.

It was a glorious day, though we seemed to have picked the only part of the Lake District covered in cloud.  From our lofty position were stunning scenes of the north western fells, Keswick, Derwent Water and Bassenthwaite.

On the way down we joined the Cumbria Way and this lonely farmhouse, called The Dash, was for a brief moment, bathed in warm afternoon sunlight.

We ended up doing over 9 miles with a serious amount of ascent and descent.  I was chuffed as I hadn't done any serious mountain walking like this for some time and was appreciative of the support and how I'd coped with the challenge.  I'm looking forward to getting back up there to do some more.
