Drama

It continued raining all night, though the wind dropped a little, and in the early hours of the morning the Dighty burst its banks and flowed through the street below us trapping people in their houses, with many houses flooded. One pic in the collage in extras shows the street this morning and another shows what happened to people who tried to drive along the bottom road.
We could see it was bad from our bedroom window and went out to see, though there was nothing we could do with the water raging by. The rain had turned to occassional showers by this point. The red stone houses in the background have their upstairs level with the more main access road and a man was escaping through a window.
After a Zoom church leaders meeting (it was to be at church but getting there would have been impossible for some) it was still mostly dry so I went for a run to see what the burn was like, the answer was it was a river and anywhere near it impassable. (Extras). Away from the burn it wasn't bad. The burn rose nearly 3m overnight.
Just as I was home some men arrived and went down a steep bank to rescue and elderly couple from their home and then the boat arrived to rescue the others (including a cat which was filmed by the press). I had a pic of the boat being brought to dry-ish lans with someone in but it's blurry so you have the empty boat.
This afternoon I got on with some sewing and now we're braced for more rain, and the wind has got up again, maybe not as bad as first thought.
P.S. Yesterday's sluice gate seemed to be completely under water - though I couldn't get anywhere near it to be sure
