Quod oculus meus videt

Light and Dark

I headed up to Cannock Chase first thing to catch the best of the day.  It was a glorious sunrise (see extra).  I'd hoped yo find more autumn colour and while the bracken was its typical russet colour the leaves on many trees were still stubbornly green.

This avenue is a delight in the autumn, lined as it is by beech trees.  I have photographs from previous years at the same time of year with the golden tones of the leaves along its length. Autumn does seem late in terms of colour, but it might mean that everything will change in a short period of time, rather than the more typical progression from the different species of tree.
