The weather was a bit brighter this morning and we decided another walk would be good. We took the coastal path heading towards Quarr but unsure if that would be the final destination or not. In end, the paths were sufficiently mud-free to make it a pleasant Sunday morning walk all the way to the Abbey.  A lot of dog walkers out this morning with similar ideas.

We’d made coffee before we left and carried it with us in insulated cups that we’d both remembered to bring down from London so we weren’t really in need of a cafe pit stop, although a bathroom break was most welcome.  We did visit the ‘farm shop’ which sells, primarily, island produce.  There were Isle of Wight mustards, chutneys and jams. The lemon marmalade caught my eye and the sample convinced me it was more marmalade than lemon curd and I bought a jar.  I did manage to skip buying island wine, gin or vodka-based drinks but, in the end, I fell for the hot cross bun flavoured fudge. It’s an Easter present.

We walked back via the town centre but managed to avoid buying anything else except some prawn cocktail mix.  I’d had a craving for a seafood lunch - thinking a nice crab sandwich would be a lovely thing to eat overlooking the sea. Unfortunately, we only found one place selling anything similar and it was a full blown meal (with chips and salad) which was more than I wanted. So, we opted for the Co-op’s prawn cocktail mix and a couple of bread rolls. It was delicious and not over-filling. We had a small piece of lamb to roast with some vegetables left-over from yesterday for dinner.

Before we got to cooking dinner we took a walk out along the beach and it’s noticeably nicer to do now that it is light later in the evenings. The sea was a long way out but the views were lovely and we walked as far as Puckpool Park before turning back at about 7pm. We got to wondering what the karting track and putting green will be like when more tourists arrive.

This is the point of being by the sea. Even the container ships seem majestic when you’re stood looking out to sea.

We ended the day keeping The Island vibe by watching another episode of Channel 5’s Isle of Wight: Jewel of the South and now have a list of even more places to visit. The good news is that the series has been successful and two additional episodes have been scheduled. We already have one of those to catch-up on.
