Fed up

…of male violence. Today’s vigil was the official monthly one supported by the council, so there were a lot more people than last week. Here is our small and select group (there are a few more who couldn’t make it). After the initial silence, F read out the 88 names of women who have been killed this year, ranging in age from a few months to 90 something. It was well attended and reported in the local newspaper.

We went for a coffee afterwards and tried to think of some good news. It was hard, but then a woman selling pink ribbons in aid of a breast cancer charity approached us. We bought some, asked for some good news, and she said “I’m 79 years old and I’ve got 38 flamenco dresses. I love dancing.” That cheered us up.

We wet to the spa in the afternoon to use up our subscription before it closes for renovation — very relaxing. In the evening I went to the intercambio (S didn’t because he was at home chatting in Catalan). There was a crowd again; I met some new people and was also pleased to see Norwegian friend S.
