Taos Earthship

Took a trip north to Taos today. The main reason was to see the Taos Pueblo and we managed that, but only just a view from the car park. It was raining pretty hard when we got there so we decided to head for the Rio Grande Gorge first, where it was raining even harder so we kept going and visited the Earthship Biotecture where we managed a few brief steps before, yep, the rain started clattering down! But the visitors centre was really interesting - and dry!
If you're into sustainable living you should check them out; there's a whole load of earthships being built there just now and this shows one of them, complete with main walls made from tyres, other walls made from adobe mud but with recycled cans and bottles to provide the shape, solar panels, wind turbine etc etc.

So then it was back to the gorge, a quick dash across in the storm to get a few pictures (while S very sensibly stayed in the truck) and back to Taos Pueblo, one minute after it shut. Wasn't allowed to take any pictures without a permit & we couldn't buy a permit because it was shut!! Grrrr!

Highlight of the day though was the stuffed pepper I had for lunch - the best Mexican dish ever!
