San Esteban del Rey Mission

This is my poor man's tribute to Ansel Adams!

We detoured to the Acoma Pueblo this morning and took the tour of the pueblo and this mission. The pueblo is still inhabited and the mission is used for festivals twice a year while also being a major source of income to the Acoma people from tourists like us (though I suspect the casino may generate a bit more). Almost nothing there is indigenous to the Acoma though, being introduced by the Spanish conquistadors who also destroyed the original pueblo buildings. And the mission was built by Acoma slave labour, with any workers that died on the job being buried in the very walls that they died building!

Then onward to stand on a corner in Winslow, Arizona .....
