Titanic

We went to Worcester to a display about the Titanic..
It was well done, they made a few artefacts go a long way! But the story is well told. The Titanic had a sister ship almost identical called the Olympic from which  some of the items on display had been obtained. But these two plates were actually from the ship itself and were recovered from the seabed. It was extremely opulent ( for the first class passengers) with beautiful furnishings and decorations. The food sounded exquisite.
We think of it as a disaster movie, but it was a tragic and moving story of how so many people and whole families were lost in the icy  water.
The Titanic’s designer, Thomas Andrews Jr,  wanted twice as many lifeboats but was persuaded to cut the number so they wouldn’t clutter up the beautiful new ship. If his original plan had prevailed many more might have been saved.
More than 1,500 people died.
