Murano and Burano - Day Trip - Friday

Woke up andIt was raining, but was clear by 9:30. We had a lovely breakfast and headed for the Vaporetto over the river to the Venice side. A quick spur of the moment decision - let’s be out of the rain and take the vaporetto to Murano and then On to Burano! We bought a five day ticket - it’s worked out much cheaper as it’s €9.50 for a single journey on the water buses! Expensive.

Murano was beautiful, it was pretty quiet it was only 10am when we arrived and we had a wander. Went in to a lovely craft shop where the lady made beautiful and quirky animals and people from the glass. I fell for a giraffe and bought it. My daughter gave me euros for my birthday so it was a birthday gift. I love a giraffe.

Stopped for a coffee at a pavement Cafe, in the sunshine. Back home was grey and wet so I sent them a pic of the blue sky to cheer them up ……..

Hopped on the vaporetto to the next island Burano, famous for its beautiful coloured houses along the side of the canals. Stunning. Stopped at a Bistro and had amazing lasagna and roast chicken and chips - shared. Mmmm it was so tasty. We have our main meal around 2pm when abroad as we are usually whacked by the time the restaurants open abroad so we have a snack in evening instead.

Wandered along the little street, found a gelato shop and tasted what I think one of the best pistachio gelato I’ve tasted.

We decided to get to the vaporetto stop to head back to main Venice and then over to our island. Met a lovely South Korean couple, around our age who they told us were immigrants to US, New Jersey and have lived there for 21 years.

Back at the hotel Had a freshen up and a cuppa then a walk on our island, along as far as the Cipriani Hotel - v posh .

I loved today the trip on the boat to the islands.
