Blue

20.0C, very bright early on with cloud building during the day. Light breeze.

Maeve the Deerhound and I went for our walk before lunch just in case showers of rain appear this afternoon. We had to dodge the spray from the watering equipment in the potato field. It is near the side of the field where the bridle path runs down to the shore road between the fields. The spray was drifting. We walked down to just outside its range and picked the best moment to make the dash through the dying spray before the main jet came back round to our direction.

We stopped in the small field on the shore side of the railway line to admire the poppies and the other wild flowers.

The tide was well out and the beach was empty. We walked along the damp sand. I waved to two of the Fishermen who were having a chat near the creel rack. As we got further along I found this piece of ceramic amongst a pile of pebbles. Another transfer printed piece. Blue this time.

I have sorted out all the greenhouse plants into big trays. This evening I will put an inch or more of water into each tray and hope that will keep everything going for the next week. I will heavily water the tomatoes too, and the big containers outside that have potatoes and courgettes.

Tomorrow we are leaving reasonably early for the long drive North to Scrabster and the evening ferry to Stromness. A week on Orkney. We have a day on Hoy planned :-)

Maeve is not coming with us this holiday (sad!).
