A NAMESAKE

Well the closest he'll ever get.   G's  name is GARRON, a very unusual Scottish name but couldn't resist this when we saw it today.

Such a lovely sunny and fairly warm morning and as I had had a bit of a rough night (anxiety wise) I decided to be kind to myself today and take G to Ulverston and then onto Haverthwaite Station for lunch.  Hubby wanted to stay home and wash his car and do some outdoors chores whilst he could.

We arrived in Ulverston about 10:15 and obviously went straight to Gillam's for Coffee.  It was busy downstairs but we were the only ones upstairs so lovely and quiet.

After that straight into Brambles and Squirrel, two lovely shops, a visit to Ulverston indoor market, then to Oxfam for their bookshop and a pootle and back to the car about 12:15.

We then headed to Haverthwaite Lake Station to see if it was open for lunch.  It was but boy was it busy. Their steam season is now over but they do open Monday to Friday 9.00am to 3.00 pm for breakfasts, cakes, lunches and afternoon teas.

Now the food there is pretty good, depending on what you have.  It is basic standard English tea room type food, but they do have some homemade cakes, soups and specials.   We just wanted the soup, which  was a homemade chunky vegetable soup, and very nice it was too, slightly salty for me but not too much so.  G had the soup and sandwich combo, which he thoroughly enjoyed.

The staff were really friendly and very helpful.  They only have two tables that they as unreserved, all the rest were fully booked.  We were lucky to get in because not long after they were having to turn people away.  So if you want to go please do ring to book a table.

After that we wondered around the station.  They have a set of carriages with an engine sat at the station and then Engine Shed was open and free to have a browse round.  I took quite a few photo of the engines they had in their but also these fun shots that you see.  I saw the sign for "Gunpowder" and being that time of the year I couldn't resist for Penny for the Garron shot.  He got my camera and took the photo of me using my super strength to stop the engine!!!??

After that we just came home.  A pleasant and nice day, much needed by me, 'cos this wait for Hubby's major op is playing havoc with my anxiety levels, which are always pretty hit and miss anyway!!!

That's all for today - do take care everyone and stay safe
