Guy Fawkes Day 2023

It turned out nice today, as they say- sunny, no wind and not cold. It was the sort of day that puts a spring in one’s step and brings out the punters to the streets and the footballers to the Meadows.
It brought me out to walk the 100 yds to meet the Merry Widows for coffee and sit in the sunshine streaming through the windows of Söderberg.
It even induced me to go on the hunt for a blip after lunch and I didn’t need to go far to get this view of the old town through the gardens of George Heriot’s School on Lauriston Place. On the other side of the road from the school is the newly restored Edinburgh Futures Institute  formerly Edinburgh Royal Infirmary and now owned by Edinburgh University. It’s looking very large and very grand. Part of it is opened but not all of it yet.

It’s wonderful to see these old buildings on either side of the road looking so solid and well built when there are so many new buildings  rushed up and then needing huge repair work done in as little as 20 years.
