Things are happening!

Our builder turned up this morning before we’d even finished breakfast - we were running a bit late!  We moved all the furniture, ornaments and paintings from the lounge into the second bedroom and then he started to remove the shelving on either side of the fireplace before tackling the fireplace.  That’s when the first problem showed up, the fireplace was actually part of the exterior wall.  Oops!  G is very resourceful.  All the rubble was broken up and pushed down the ash chute, which saved money having to dispose of it.  The wall will be slightly further forward than we’d thought and there’ll be a shelf across the wall where the top of the fireplace is, plus extra insulation to pack out the wall.  This will help keep the room warm, as we can see daylight in lots of places.  The top of the chimney will have to be capped off to stop any unwanted visitors.  The doors between the lounge and the entrance hallway have been removed.  G will crack on with rebuilding the wall tomorrow and the room will look completely different by tomorrow night.  G is a very tidy worker.

As if that wasn’t enough, the afternoon was taken up with choosing new blinds for our bedroom and en-suite, the big ranchslider, the small “conservatory” off the dining room and the third bedroom.  Curtains will be chosen for the dining room, second bedroom and the lounge at a later date, but measurements have been taken.  Not only did we have to choose the blinds, but also the cords and the bottom rails.  So many decisions to make, but we did it.

MrMacD planted the roses and the abutilons while I prepared supper.  We’re having an early night.
