Is this the world's most valued companion?

I was asked to set up a few preset stations on a new radio today, and was reminded how much joy, companionship, interest, information or solace that radios give to people the world over.
When my mother went shopping for this recently, several shops explained  that the limited choice available was because so many people use other devices.

I agree that web based delivery on my PC, tablet or phone is fantastic because it lets me choose when and where I enjoy the output. However, I am amongst millions who would find it starkly silent if a radio was not chattering or singing to me from somewhere nearby.

What a wonderful invention this is.
