Life is a Challenge!

STORM DEBI HAS A LOT TO ANSWER FOR!

Mr. HCB was up quite early this morning and all seemed well, but when he went back upstairs at about 9 o’clock, he could see that a large portion of our back fence had been blown down in the storm.  I took two shots of the damage after I had rung our fence man to ask if he could come and have a look.  We only had this new fence erected in September 2020, but it was obviously not quite strong enough to withstand the winds of Storm Debi.

Five posts have snapped off but hopefully it won’t cost too much to get the fence re-erected.  It has blown down in one complete section, but we do feel rather vulnerable and hope it won’t take too long.

Mr. HCB was keen to clear out the garage because he had seen some mouse droppings in there a while ago and he knows I am not that keen on “wee mice” so despite thinking he may be praying for the storm to abate, he is just looking underneath the units in the garage to make sure there were none in a nest.  Meanwhile, I sat outside underneath the car port and was ready to make a hasty retreat if any ran my way!

The last photograph in my collage shows our older son helping to dismantle the trees from the fence - as all the trees we have in pots had gone over with it - quite fortuitous that he popped in to see us this afternoon!

Of course, our insurance does not cover storm damage to our fences - makes you wonder why we bother to have insurance but I guess that’s pretty general - but we haven’t been flooded, so we are thankful for small mercies and at least the garage is now tidier!

Hope you stay safe, warm and dry - the gale force wind is still howling around, but hopefully we will be spared more damage.
