If you can't beat them...

Cedarus atlantica glauca pendula

My afternoon with Kanyl, so my usual wander round his garden looking for a blip.  As the title suggests he has a pendulous blue Atlantic Cedar.  Little drops of rain were hanging on the ends of the needles.  So this is my attempt.

In the evening it was our monthly meeting of the Penrith Wildlife Trust Support Group.  The talk was about biodiversity, how necessary it is and what individuals can do to help.

Some very disturbing facts came out in the talk.  Urban areas are becoming more important for wildlife than the countryside.  Large areas of the countryside are getting too many chemical treatments.  An example was shown of a field of rape that had been given 17 different sprays in its lifetime.  These included insecticides, fungicides, and molluscicides.  The result was basically no living things in the field as there was nothing for them to feed on.  Facts were also presented about the drastic fall in wildlife in the last 50 years.  It would seem from the examples shown our continental cousins are doing much more to help out and improve their environment.

A black spot in the day was my receiving a message on my phone telling me the EU is going to allow the use of glyphosate for another 10 years.   However, our own government allows the continued use of neonicotinoids which I feel are much worse.
