It was well worth going into work to meet our visitor today, as he operates very high up in the surreal world of energy systems planning. Models are needed to guide the investment of ten trillion dollars as we transition to net-zero energy generation, and maybe our software (HiGHS) will play a key role in analysing them! Although HiGHS is free to use, there's some hope of investment to improve it.

After that I got on with the routine business of interacting with users of HiGHS and enhancing it in small ways.  I also had an exchange with my prospective PhD student Y, as she considered a final MSc project (with someone else) for next summer. All very pleasant.

On the bus home I chatted with a friend who is very senior in another School of UoE, and wrestling with issues that, thanks to the success of HiGHS, I'm lucky not to be faced with.

Now to walk Django before daughter L cooks tea and A returns from a long, full-on day.
