South bank

Bit of a struggle to get out of bed this morning despite ‘only’ having done 6 miles yesterday, so we decided to pick up one of the delicious Christmas buns from Gail’s bakery for breakfast…but they didn’t have any.
Caught the tube east and, after a couple of false turns, crossed the millennium bridge over to the Tate Modern gallery to see the Yayoi Kusama exhibition. It was good to immerse ourselves in the two mirrored rooms, especially the second one which really did give the sense of an infinity of light points stretching around, above and below us. The downside was that those two rooms plus some photographs was the whole exhibition….bit thin!
We had a wander around some of the other galleries and we went into different parts of the building than I’d been to before.
By then we were getting really hungry so walked round to Borough Market. Having done a tour of the stalls we ended up at the caff in the centre for morning rolls and mugs of tea/coffee. Pleased to have a sit down and think about next part of the day. We shared a salted caramel and honeycomb doughnut then walked back to the Globe theatre where, after a drink, we went to see Ghosts by Ibsen in the Sam Wannamaker Playhouse…lit entirely by candles which was beautiful. It was (inevitably) intense and sad but interesting about family dynamics and great to be in such an unusual space and so close to the actors, albeit above them (extra). We looked round the shop and saw a copy of Shakespeare’s first folio (extra), then walked all along the south bank to Westminster, looking at the market, OXO tower (less interesting shops than it used to have), Gabriel’s Wharf, skateboarders, London Eye and Festival Hall. We decided to go for BBQ style supper as K had fancied a beef sandwich at lunch time and we hadn’t been able to find one, so walked over via Whitehall to Soho and found a place which was quick and tasty. Tube home….8 miles today, so we needed to collapse for a couple of hours before bed with some peppermint tea and the last of the Crown episodes currently available and chat to A as she prepares for her presentation on Friday.
