New Growth

In a mild location and a sheltered spot, a few of the summer flowering plants continue to make new flowers.   The Welsh Poppy, Papaver cambricum, is in truth a weed here.  Spreading quickly by seed and very difficult to eradicate, it can quickly take over of allowed.  The roots go deeper than the red Field Poppies in this perennial species, making it difficult to just pull them up.   Whatever the reason, it was a little disconcerting to see a fresh flower looking so good in late November and alongside it, a fresh flower on Pot Marigold, Calendria officianalis.

After a quiet morning when I even had a snooze on the sofa, Jamie and I headed off to Birmingham where we'll celebrate Jamie's 21st on Friday.   A longer journey time than usual, mostly due to congestion in Birmingham city centre due to a fire although an early deviation due to a local road closure didn't help.   Meg and I have retired for the night to a travel hotel and a comfy bed while Jamie has the spare bed at Ruth's.
