Dovecot stairs

I went through with some friends to see the Heriott Watt Degree show at Dovecot Studios today. I'd been wanting to see a degree show before I have to do one next year so had been looking forward to it.
After having a good look through the bookshop we went through to a room with a big mound of textiles. All the students artwork was covered over a frame to look like a rock. There were lots of great pieces there of print, knit, and woven textiles. Unfortunately, the style of presentation was awful as the mound was far taller than the average human so you couldn't see the stuff on top, and there appeared to be no coherent order to how it was put together. It looked like a jumble sale.
We all thought this was the sample pieces and then we'd see the work in more detail in the next room, but no, that was, literally, the bulk of it. There were a few displays in the next room from about 4 or 5 students and that was it. Those pieces were fine. However, it was a big let down as we were expecting to see a lot more.
We headed up the stairs to see into the weaving room, but that was shut, so this photo is from the top of stairs.
After lunch at the Stag Cafe in Dovecot, excellent as always, we went to the amber exhibition at Chambers Street museum, then down to the City Art Centre to the fashion exhibitions there. They were great and really worth going to, especially the Conde Nast Vogue photography exhibit.
Back home now and shattered. It's been a great and cultured day and it was fab sharing it with great company.
