Protecting children from polio in Bhavnagar

This is our colleague, Hema, administering polio drops to a child in Bhavnagar District, Gujarat.

January 2012 marked the first whole year in which no cases of Polio were reported in India. This is a huge milestone but it is important not to let efforts slip. There are still large pockets of the population (the poorest, remotest, the illiterate) who must be reached in order to ensure that all children are vaccinated as a matter of course.

Our partner, the PNR Society, support government efforts to target marginalised people in slums, tribal villages and day labourers working in ship breaking yards and use street plays, rallies and pamphlets to motivate them to get their children vaccinated.
