Reflecting....

The River Severn is very high and at Bridgnorth today we could not walk the path that runs into Lowtown as it was under a great deal of water. We took a short diversion and went across the river to the see the caves in the sandstone crags on the north side, below the beautiful houses up in Hightown. The caves are thought to be the work of one Colonel Lavington, Parliamentary soldier charged with ending the seige of Bridgnorth in 1646. Royalist soldiers were ensconsed above and were thought to be using St Mary's Church to store gunpowder. His plan was to tunnel up to the church and blow it up, but the Royalists surrendered before the tunnel was completed.

The cave is called Lavington's Hole......now you know!
