Macbeth in Liverpool

Recently I heard a BBC radio item about a current production of Macbeth, and, on impulse, booked afternoon tickets for me and Richard. Liverpool's an easy train ride away - making for a grand day out.
And it was a gripping performance, with Ralph Fiennes as Macbeth and Indira Varma as Lady Macbeth.   Dress and setting were modern.  We walked through a ravaged landscape to get into the theatre area in the Depot film studio, and this could have been Yemen, Ukraine - Gaza.
Shakespeare's writing always touches so many nerves, and there are so many phrases of his that have passed into common usage, often with their roots forgotten. A sombre performance, necessarily, but it was wonderful to be drawn into the storytelling. This time, it was the moments focused on grief, and on madness, that came over with special intensity.
