Christmas Rose

Temperature -3. Overcast, but not snowing. Light wind.

At home.
Nothing special, but the physiotherapy.

In the picture you see Helleborus niger, that I bought yesterday. This white flowered Hellebore, Helleborus niger, is commonly called the Christmas rose, due to an old legend that it sprouted in the snow from the tears of a young girl who had no gift to give the Christ Child in Bethlehem (Wikipedia). It's an old traditional flower that was forgotten for a long time, but is very popular again.

There are many different legends of the flower. Both the flower and stories are lovely. The plant is perennial and can be planted out on the ground in spring. It may bloom already next spring, or even winter under the snow. The plant is very toxic.
