Graffiti Train

The train from Bruges to Brussels was a superb journey with comfy seats, plenty of room and running on time. It was a pity that this train was on the platform at Brussels station when we got off to catch the Eurostar. The carriages looked even worse. The Eurostar itself was another great journey but it all went downhill when we got back to the UK.

We had been notified that our train to Chester had been cancelled before we left Belgium and in fact all the direct trains to Chester had been cancelled in the afternoon and early evening. In theory we could change to the train directly before or directly after but as we had given ourselves plenty of time between arriving in London and catching the train back from Euston we were very early so decided to just get on the first available train instead. Despite the ticket inspector at Euston saying we couldn't do this he eventually relented and we ended up on a much earlier train and even managed to get a seat. It was a good job we did this because as the journey progressed it appeared that more Aviva West Coast trains had been cancelled due to lack of staff. The train from Crewe was then standing room only but we ended up getting home much earlier than scheduled so it worked out well in the end but it's a good job we took this approach.
