Poinsettia flowers

A Poinsettia is always part of our Christmas decorations.  I have in the past managed to keep one and get it to turn red again.  The trick is they need short days and long nights, At least 14 hours for a couple of months.  The bracts will then turn red.  Yes, I said bracts contrary to what many people think they aren't petals.  The actual flowers are those tiny things in the middle.

Poinsettia are from central America and were first introduced to the rest of the world by John Poinsett an American government official.
