Mystic Cuba*

We were quite surprised to discover 4-6 inches of snow on the northern slopes of the mountains. Happily, our hiking boots (and poles) served us well, and we were able to make our way up the steep, snowy slopes of the mesas and the mountains.

In the distance you can see El Cabezón (the big head), a volcanic plug reaching 7835 feet/2373 meters into the atmosphere.

~ Hoodoos on the ridge,
~ A fallen, weathered Sugar Pine stump.  Do you see the "monster?"

* Mystic Cuba is our name for this magical place we discovered simply by being curious. It’s not on any maps.  We discovered it by taking some very back roads, seeing in the distance a mountain with some hoodoos on a ridge, and saying, “Let’s go explore!”
