The Gap

An early morning drive to Sydney today for a friend to receive more cardiological treatment at St Vincent’s Hospital which meant many hours to kill in the eastern suburbs. This is not my favourite part of Sydney (to say the least) but it does contain some great scenery and interesting history if you’re prepared to disregard the traffic nightmare.
The main blip is of The Gap at South Head showing North Head in the background, although less visible than usual in the miserable weather. The area affords spectacular views in almost every direction but is also unfortunately the final destination for many suicide victims.
The extra is of Vaucluse House, a magnificent example of early colonial architecture and landscaping only a couple of kms down the road from the Gap.
