Australian Raven

This is the first time I have blipped The Australian Raven (Corvus coronoides), also known as the "Crow" or "Raven".

This bird was hanging around the mince I put on the deck for him, getting up enough courage to come down and grab it. Much more hesitant than a magpie and will not get close to humans for any hand feeding.

Bigger wing.

It is a large bird, average size is 48-54 cm, wing span 100 cm (average), and typical weight is 650 g. They have glossy black feathers reflecting sunlight. Their claws are massive, and see my other shot from today displaying the lethal and massive claws here in my Blipfolio, at the end of the Lorikeets section.

Australian Ravens are the "highway patrol" in the bird world. They fly along roads searching for road-kill, which, together with ants and Whistling Kites, they will clean up in a very short time.

Like all members of the Corvus family, Australian Ravens are omnivores. As nest robbers our ravens are not well-liked by other bird species, especially during the breeding season.
