The mosaic bench

The mosaic bench in front of the Goodwood Foodland Super Market is a unique Community Art project. On the panels on each end, not in view in my blip, there are some interesting details about this art work.

The bench is about community spirit and multi-culturalism. Sorry about the messy background!

On the left hand end of the bench the inscription is:
Welcome one and all alike. All ages shapes and origins.

On the front left bottom panel it says: Created by Devi and Vaughan.

On the front right bottom panel it says: An initiative of the Goodwood Traders and Services Association.

The right hand end of the bench says: Whether sitting alone or together, cheerful or gloomy....The angel of Goodwood sees with honest eyes.

Clearer mosaics.

Next to the bench is an art work consisting of 9 tiles set into the footpath, paying tribute to our former state premier Don Dunstan. It shows his likeness in the tiles, with his well-known quote "Governments have to remove themselves from desks and drawing boards and become involved with the people they are planning for". Don Dunstan 1926 - 1999.

I have a very small personal connection here. As well as supporting the Arts, Don Dunstan was a great sporting fan and keen fitness person and in 1968 when Premier he presented me with a trophy at a state sporting championships. You can read more about him here.
