David Le Page leading his Ensemble at St Laurence

Bruce and Dom invited us to the annual concert by the Le Page Ensemble in St Laurence church. They very kindly did the same last year and we loved it and the whole occasion. Unfortunately Helena had an overnight trip already booked so she couldn’t come with us.

David Le Page is an eminent violinist and music arranger who creates this winter’s seasonal mix of words and music, mixing mostly classical pieces with folk themes and an occasional jazz feel and even a Christmas carol or two woven into the arrangements. There were four violins, a viola, double bass, cello, piano and the dulcet tones of actor Simon Macburney reading from various works by Laurie Lee, Thomas Hardy, and Charles Dickens.

The church was packed and our seats in the middle provided excellent sounds if limited views. I like the scene I’ve blipped as it shows David Le Page on solo violin on the left and several of the other musicians. I’ve added a couple of ‘Extras’ showing Simon Macburney reading a piece linking different musical pieces, as well as a group shot when the whole Ensemble took a bow at the end of the performance.
