Home alone …..

And now they’ve gone …..

Another Christmas over, and a house where we are left rattling around, literally picking up the pieces of a festive few days - rationalising the inevitable culinary leftovers, stripping beds, collecting festive flotsam from where it’s gathered in dark corners.

Daniel and Solveig take almost as long to get to Meols as Simon and Lloyd take to get to London. Miraculously, their train journey goes as planned, while the Wirral journey is lengthened by the lack of available charging points - yes, they should have charged the car before they left ……

The first flourish of tidying up done, we settle down to catch up on Christmas TV - the television’s only been on once since they arrived, and then only to watch Home Alone, a Christmas tradition.

Soon, of course, things seem more normal - the last few days now happy memories, though over far too quickly. Next Christmas, they will go their separate ways, Daniel, Solveig and their baby girl to Germany, Simon and Lloyd as yet undecided; these biennial gatherings are now the norm.

At least I’m feeling so much better physically - the pain now gone.

In terms of photos, I realise when they’ve gone I’ve taken nothing, so today you have a collage of some of our decorations. The thumbnail is a shell angel from Savannah - one of my favourites.

Thanks for all your lovely comments over the last few days when I’ve been largely absent - and special thanks for G’s birthday wishes!
