Massive Waves at Birdlings Flat

Reading Horomaka's blip last night, I was inspired to contact a girlfriend about going over to Birdlings Flat this morning, to check out the 5m swells that are rolling up from the south. We were astounded at what we saw. There were massive waves pounding and dumping onto the beach, often accompanied by a thunderous roaring noise. The spray was drifting well inland, and was a right pain for cameras! It was a marvellous photo opportunity - do check it out! (there are 5 images) We were lucky in that it didn't rain or snow - it held off until we were back on the north side of Banks Peninsula.

The forecasters worst predictions have been realised, much of New Zealand has been battered by an uncommonly severe storm, and there have been massive dumps of snow in the South Island, and gale force winds battering Wellington.

On a personal note, can you see that the beach is covered in pebbles? I managed just fine with my knee! Yay indeed! And, did I say I like wild weather?
