We made it!

Yet again another wet windy day!  We wrapped up and went as far as the woods by the Abbey.
We parked at Abbey House . The car park was quite full as youd expect at this time of the year.
We peered in through the windows of the Duddon suite which was set up for tonight's festivities. A lot of tables as one would expect.
We went there one New Years Eve. It was too noisy for conversation but the band was good and I enjoyed having a dance. It was wet and windy that night and the big firework display was reduced to just a few  fireworks ( to avoid complaints that they didnt have them ) I doubt if there was any tonight.
Nowadays we avoid big crowded areas ( Covid cautious)  but  I still like New Years Eve. We always did something special. A night for enjoying with friends . Discos then back to our place for post midnight food and to party . Then other years we used to go to the restaurant for the  Chinese banquet and then back to a party at our house.
But time moves on and friends get older and the night life in town has changed... a lot .

So tonight I've been happy to be at home and cosy and celebrate the New Year with Mike and Fletch. We made it through another year!
We drank champagne and I had a tot of Laphroaig as we watched the fireworks on the tv.
We nipped out to hear the ship's hooters and fog horns blaring away at midnight . Someone was letting off a lot of fireworks nearby despite the rain.  Luckily Fletch is no longer bothered by the bangs ( he is getting a bit deaf)
Neighbours across the road were waiting to first foot.
Itll probably be a while till we have a first footer in our house. We always had bread , salt and coal in a box  for them to carry in.

What ever is in store for us in 2024 I hope for everyone it is a happy healthy and peaceful year.
