Rummaging in the Fossil & Heritage Centre again today, this time through the WW1 &2 stuff. Amongst other things they've got lots of publications from the period, all very interesting in a make's you sad/angry/amused/bewildered/intrigued sort of a way.

Some of the most interesting are the Orkney Blast, a newspaper produced for the forces based in Orkney during WW2 - there were something like 80,000 of them based here at the time. The newspaper is an intriguing mixture of national and international news, Orkney forces news, cartoons, what's on at the pictures and reports from the local dances... not to mention Agony Aunt columns and a fair number of 1940's pin up girls.
