Bohemian rhapsody...

Thanks to Blipper Villan, I knew there were waxwings just outside Bakewell yesterday. So this morning Richard and I drove out to Hassop Station cafe - by the Monsal Trail - to take a look. On the way over, there was light snow falling on the hills, so it didn't look very promising.
But the weather improved as we arrived in Hassop. It was early, but there were already a few people out with their long lenses to hand.
And sure enough, a large flock had settled in some trees just a few dozen metres down the trail from the cafe. Richard went off to order a full breakfast while I got engrossed in watching these lovely birds, as they devoured the remaining berries.
Look carefully and you can see the bird's tongue here, beak open to receive the berry.
What a treat. Thank you Villan for the heads-up.
