That's more like it....

A basic rule of thumb in Canada is that if it has snowed heavily, the snow plough will come along in the middle of the night, make lots of noise to wake everyone up, then frig off leaving the furrows of snow at the end of the drive to freeze hard and become immovable by morning light.

However, maybe the onset of the New Normal has softened the snow plough drivers' hearts: either that or the City has cut back on overtime. Because the streets were cleared well in advance and by the time I came to go upstairs, everything was clear.

As it transpired, the temperatures skyrocketed in the night, so that by the morning, it had been raining, the school buses were running, and Ottawacker Jr.'s slim hopes of a "snow day" off school were dashed.

Worked in the morning, spent the afternoon watching Liverpool make heavy weather of an awful Fulham team, and then spent an evening en famille having fun and watching Ken Burns' excellent documentary on Muhammad Ali.
