Clever Clogs Crow and the Jelly Baby

I met a friend for a walk today.
It was freezing; in fact it was 7.5 degrees below freezing (Celsius).
There was a mainly crunchy, sometimes slippy, covering of snow on the paths.
My friend had nipped back to her car for her phone so I found myself chuckling at the endeavours of a crow and a jelly baby it had found on the path.
It REALLY liked the look of its sweet treat and was very proud to remove it from the path of another crow that also had its eye on the golden treasure. Its confusion was fascinating and amusing to watch as it realised that its treasure was very very frozen.
But it pecked and it carried it, and it dropped it and looked at it, and, little by little, the crunchy frozen exterior yielded the sweet innards.
A very happy corvid.
I love crows.
They are often maligned but there's no doubt that they are incredibly intelligent and undoubtedly cruel; but such is the nature of Nature.

"An egg of blackness/ Where sun and moon alternate their weather
To hatch a crow, a black rainbow
Bent in emptiness.
Over emptiness
But flying"
