Cardinal Beetle

Pyrochroa serraticornis

According to Wikipedia, the cardinal beetle preys on other insects and is normally found at the edges of woodland, which is indeed where it was. The red colour warns predators that it is toxic. I had my long zoom lens on the camera today in the hope of capturing a deer or a hare while walking in the hills. So completely the wrong lens for a beetle :-( On the other hand the red does contrast well with the greenery :-)
