Winsford

Blown away

In an alternate universe we would be approaching Pitlochry just now. However we learned late last night that our Transpennine Train today was cancelled due to Storm Isha.

There were alternative routes but Scotrail had also announced evening cancellations and so the risk of delays and further cancellations could have meant we found ourselves stranded.

Having weighed up options we decided to stay down an extra night. This decision proved wise and further cancellations did indeed follow.

So after breakfast and saying bye to my sister & husband we walked over to Salford Quay and Media City. We went to see the Lowry exhibition which was a revelation to me - I hadn't realised there was so much more to L S Lowry than matchstick men and dogs.

This was followed by a quick sandwich then tram back into town and visit to Manchester Art Gallery. It had some interesting pieces but I felt it was trying too hard with its new/re-interpretations.

Now figuring our plans for evening - somewhere to eat and hopefully some live music.

It's been fun having an extra day to explore the city further.
