Merida

The City of Merida is the capital of the Yucatán State. It has a fascinating history steeped in Mayan and Spanish culture (read more here if you’re interested https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mérida,_Yucatán.) My sister lives in Chelem which is about a 45 minute drive from Merida. We spent much of the afternoon walking around Centro Historico, the beautiful and historical part of this colonial city.

Filled with shops that mostly cater to the tourist,…one could purchase these almost life-size ceramic figures (main blip) :-)

In the extras are two collages with various cathedrals and historical buildings, including the University of the Yucatán.

It started raining mid-afternoon and was quite wet by the time we got back to Emily’s house. No swimming this afternoon!
