Announcing His Presence

I heard the familiar call of a woodpecker behind me and was fortunate enough to track the sound to its source. The red crown and signature pecking at the trunk as it rose up the tree helped somewhat to locate it. The red crown denotes it is a male.

Of course I cropped in and toyed with placing the bird in the bottom corner, but it didn't feel quite right. I think it's interesting not having it centred as I might have done normally.

High today of 35°F, thank goodness the cold spell is over.
