A moment in time

Robert Burns

My mother (born in 1908) won a copy of Robert Burns' poems in a literature competition at school (see extra).  I have always treasured it, mainly because she has copied in her own handwriting inside the cover, a poem written about Robert Burns and exhibited in Burns Cottage in Alloway.  Tonight being Burns Night, I thought it appropriate to show it to you.

Today we said goodbye to Margaret.  Margaret and I walked many miles together and she was a lovely lady.

It was a Catholic Mass, and then to the cemetery in the pouring rain.  We were needing our sustenance at the hotel afterwards.  These things are never pleasant, but one thing that does happen is that we bump into old friends not seen for some time, and many good memories are shared.
