Iris 'Katherine Hodgkinson' in the late afternoon

I came home from the market mid-afternoon and  went out to replenish the bird food in the two feeders. As I opened the back door I saw that this small pot of miniature Irs bulbs had suddenly come alive and flowered in the relatively warm winter sunshine.

I moved the pot to a suitable pedestal where it could catch the last rays of the sun and grabbed my camera. I

When I bought the pot of the bulbs I had no idea what flower type they would produce, so I was quite surprised to see these relatively pale flowers with such vivid markings. I rather like them.
